ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Apr, 2025) Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday congratulated the nation on Constitution Day, recalling April 10, 1973, as a landmark moment when Pakistan’s consensus Constitution was approved—an event he described as a shining chapter in the country’s democratic history.
In his message, the Speaker said the Constitution laid a strong foundation for national unity, public rights protection and institutional stability. He emphasized that constitutional supremacy, the rule of law, and democratic continuity are essential for Pakistan’s progress and stability.
Paying tribute to the political leadership of 1973, Ayaz Sadiq lauded all parties and their members for setting aside differences to frame a consensus document that still underpins the country’s democratic structure and national identity.
He reiterated that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, guiding the governance structure, defining institutional roles, and safeguarding citizens’ rights and responsibilities.
He also reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to enacting legislation for public welfare and improving governance through transparency and efficiency.
Highlighting the need for unity among all political forces, the Speaker called for collective efforts to address national challenges in the spirit of cooperation shown by the 1973 Assembly.
He also stressed the importance of educating the youth about the Constitution and encouraging their role in national development.
Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also extended greetings to the nation on Constitution Day, terming April 10, 1973, a symbol of Pakistan’s democratic sovereignty.
He said the consensus Constitution, achieved under the leadership of the late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, stands as a testament to federalism, democracy, and national cohesion.
The Deputy Speaker praised the constitutional contributions of the 1973 Assembly, calling them a proud legacy of the nation’s political history.
He urged all citizens to uphold the Constitution and follow in the footsteps of those visionary leaders to ensure the country’s development, prosperity and the protection of public rights.
