Biden addresses UNGA session for last time as president

Biden makes his final appearance at the UN General Assembly in New York, after dropping out of the race in July and endorsing his vice president as the Democratic nominee, the 81-year-old is not taking any chances.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also attending the opening session of the 79th UNGA being held today marking the beginning of the annual gathering of world leaders.

Addressing the member states, Biden lays importance on a ceasefire deal for Gaza and Lebanon as well as calls for support for Ukraine.

“Diplomatic solution is still possible to Lebanon-Israel conflict,” says Biden.

He adds: “World has to choose whther to sustain support for Ukraine or walk away from that aggression.”

He urged a diplomatic solution as Israel strikes Hezbollah targets, warning against a “full-scale war” in Lebanon.

“Full-scale war is not in anyone’s interest. Even though the situation has escalated, a diplomatic solution is still possible,” Biden said in his address.

This is a developing story and is being updated with more details.
