Cary Elwes has revealed that his life changed after starring in the 1987 cult classic The Princess Bride.
Speaking to People magazine, the 62-year-old actor described the fantasy adventure comedy as “the gift that keeps on giving.”
The England native, who played Westley in The Princess Bride, also credited its director, Rob Reiner, for solidifying his comedy chops.
When Cary asked whether he felt he had to prove he could do comedy early in his acting career, the Twister star replied, “Well, Rob Reiner really helped me with that.”
“Once I got that part, that really kind of opened the door for me, and that’s how I got the role of Robin Hood with Mel Brooks,” shared the star, referring to his titular role in 1993’s Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
“So that was really Rob basically saying, ‘I believe that you can do comedy and I can believe you do serious as well.’ So, yeah,” added the star.
Discussing his relationship with the movie, Cary said it is still integral to his career to this day.
“I have sold-out shows. I tour with the movie and I sell out everywhere I go. It’s crazy,” he told the publication. “It’s really beautiful.”
