Amid the success of Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise is considering making a standalone film about his character Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Christopher McQuarrie, who has a rich history of collaborating with the megastar, said the pair is considering making a film about the character.
“The conversations we’ve had about Les Grossman are so ****** funny,” he said. “[Cruise and I are] talking about it, we’re having very serious conversations about it, and how best to do it. It ultimately comes down to what that character is.”
The loud-mouth producer character became so vital that the duo even used it to escape while working on The Final Reckoning.
“We don’t even think about the structure, we play with scenes,” the director added. “Just to be sitting at a breakfast table, not talking about the movie we’re making for a minute, is such decompression.”
“And just riffing with Tom playing Les Grossman at the table, it was one of the real joys of making this movie. It was all the stuff we were doing, planning the future while slugging out the present.”
In the meantime, the latest Mission Impossible has so far raked in nearly $800 million globally.
