Brad Pitt talked about his upcoming sports drama film, F1, as he said he believes Formula 1 drivers face more intense pressure and public criticism than actors.
In a recent interview with GQ, the Hollywood star compared the two professions, saying that while both can feel isolating, the level of scrutiny in racing is on another level.
Pitt pointed out that many people underestimate the skill it takes to compete in F1 because they drive cars themselves.
“There’s an isolation,” he said. “Even a loneliness when you don’t feel like things are clicking. They usually lead to something greater and you can find purpose in it.”
The star continued, “But there is a definite isolation and it’s not necessarily a negative, it’s an endeavor and a constant discussion with you and yourself of maintaining this thing.”
Pitt said he feels that despite the challenges actors face, race car drivers deal with harsher judgment.
“And, yes, I think we’ve got it bad,” he added. “But those guys are so scrutinized and that sport is so revered and there are so many of us that think we could do it, too, just because we drive a car fast down the freeway or something.
“They get so much s**t. It is shocking to me. They’ve got to have thicker skin than even us.”
The film, which also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem, is scheduled to be theatrically released on June 25, 2025.
